What is Crates at DiceCity?
Crates is an opening game from the DiceCity Originals. Each bet opens five cards. Every card flips over to show its rarity and its multiplier, and you win the sum of all five.
Most cards are Commons and Uncommons worth a small fraction of your stake, so a typical opening pays back less than you put in. The excitement is in the rarer cards: Rares can pay up to 15×, Epics 50× or 150×, Legendaries 500× or 1,000×, and the Crown pays 10,000×. Each card is drawn on its own, so one opening can hold two of the same card, and five Crowns would pay 50,000×. The legend under the cards shows every rarity with its chance.
DiceCity is invite only and for adults 18 and over. Open the invite link a citizen sent you, or sign in, to play on this page.
How do you play Crates?
- Enter your stake in Bet amount. The smallest bet is worth $0.10, and ½ and 2× halve or double it.
- Look at the card rarities and their chances under the cards.
- Press the open button, or press Space.
- Five cards turn over one after another, each showing its rarity and multiplier.
- The total of the five multipliers is shown.
- You are paid your stake times that total.
What are the odds and payouts?
Each card draws a ticket out of 10,000,000, and the ticket falls into one card of the table by its weight:
| Rarity | Multipliers | Chance per card |
|---|---|---|
| Common | 0.01×, 0.02×, 0.03×, 0.04× | 64.58% |
| Uncommon | 0.1×, 0.2×, 0.4×, 0.8× | 31% |
| Rare | 1×, 2×, 5×, 15× | 4.4% |
| Epic | 50×, 150× | 0.024% |
| Legendary | 500×, 1,000× | 55 in 10,000,000 |
| Crown | 10,000× | 2 in 10,000,000 |
On average a card is worth 0.198× the stake, so five cards are worth 0.99×. After the engine's tiny rounding trim, Crates returns 98.99% over time, a house edge of just over 1%. That average comes almost entirely from rare cards, which is why most openings pay less than the stake. It is a long-run figure, not a forecast for any session.
Any single bet pays at most $10,000, whatever the cards add up to. In real-money play a Max bet note under the bet field shows the limit the cap sets.
Is Crates fair?
Yes. All five cards come from DiceCity's provably fair seeds:
- Server seed hash. Before you open, you are shown the SHA-256 hash of a secret server seed. The seed, and so the five cards, are fixed from then on.
- Your client seed. Your own input. Change it to any text up to 64 characters.
- The nonce. The opening's number on your seed pair, starting at 0.
- How the cards are drawn. HMAC-SHA256 of the server seed with your client seed and nonce gives five numbers. Each is scaled to a ticket from 0 to 9,999,999, and the ticket falls into one card of the table, walking from the rarest card down.
- Checking after you rotate. Rotate the seed pair to reveal the old server seed and start a new pair at nonce 0. Hash the revealed seed, compare it with the hash you saw, then select it under Previous seeds and recheck any opening in the Verify tab.
Crates uses the same seed pair as Vault, Cases and most other DiceCity Originals, so one rotation covers them together. Plinko keeps a pair of its own.
What settings can you change?
- Bet amount. With ½ and 2×.
- Manual or Auto. One opening per press, or a series.
- Number of bets. How many openings Auto makes; 0 keeps going until you stop.
- On win and On loss. Reset the bet, or raise it by a percentage.
- Stop on profit and Stop on loss. Auto stops at either result.
- Sound and Fairness. The speaker button, and the key button for seeds and Verify.
- Page controls. Favourites (S), Live stats, Theatre mode (T) on wider screens and Full screen (F).
Tips for playing responsibly
- Set a budget before the first opening. DiceCity's responsible gambling page has a budget calculator.
- Expect most openings to pay well under the stake. Five Commons add up to less than a quarter of it.
- A Legendary or Crown is very rare. Do not plan a session around one.
- In Auto, add a Stop on loss.
- Raising the stake after a poor opening does not improve the next draw.
- Check Live stats from time to time, and take breaks.
