What is Mines at DiceCity?

Mines is a step-by-step game from the DiceCity Originals. A 5 × 5 board of 25 tiles hides between 1 and 24 mines, and the rest are gems. You reveal tiles one at a time. Every gem raises your multiplier, and you can cash out after any gem. Reveal a mine and the round ends with the stake lost.

The tension comes from the choice you make after each gem: take the current multiplier or turn one more tile. You also set the risk before the round starts. More mines mean fewer safe tiles but a bigger jump in the multiplier for each gem you find. Finding every gem on the board cashes out for you automatically.

DiceCity is invite only and for adults 18 and over. Open the invite link a citizen sent you, or sign in, and the board opens on this page.

How do you play Mines?

  1. Enter your stake in Bet amount. The smallest bet is worth $0.10.
  2. Choose how many mines to hide, from 1 to 24. The Gems figure shows how many safe tiles that leaves.
  3. Press Bet, or press Space. The mines are placed the moment you bet.
  4. Click a tile, or use Pick random tile. A gem raises the multiplier and shows what the next gem would pay.
  5. Press Cashout, or Space again, to take your stake times the current multiplier.
  6. Hit a mine and the round ends. The board then shows where every mine was.

What are the odds and payouts?

After a number of gems, the multiplier is 0.99 times the inverse of the chance of finding that many gems in a row. Some examples:

MinesFirst tile safeFirst gem paysAfter 5 gemsEvery gem found
196%1.03×1.23×24.74×
388%1.12×1.99×2,276.99×
580%1.23×3.39×52,598.69×
1060%1.64×17.51×3,236,072.07×
244%24.74×–24.74×

Because each multiplier is priced from the exact odds, every cash-out point returns just under 99% over time, whichever mine count you play. That is a long-run average, not a guide to what happens in one round.

There is a limit on top of the maths: any single bet pays at most $10,000. In real-money play a note under the bet field tells you the multiplier at which wins stop for your stake.

Is Mines fair?

Yes. Mines uses DiceCity's provably fair seeds, and the mines are fixed before you click anything:

  • Server seed hash. Before you bet you see the SHA-256 hash of a secret server seed. That locks the seed, and with it the board.
  • Your client seed. Your own input to every result. Change it to any text up to 64 characters when no round is in play.
  • The nonce. Each bet's number on your seed pair, starting at 0.
  • How the mines are placed. HMAC-SHA256 of the server seed with your client seed and nonce produces a stream of numbers. Each one picks a tile from those still free, and the first ones picked are the mines.
  • Checking after you rotate. Rotating the seed pair reveals the old server seed and starts a new pair at nonce 0. Rotation waits until your round has ended, since the seed would give the board away. Then hash the revealed seed, compare it with the hash you saw, and use the Verify tab to see where every mine was.

Mines uses the same seed pair as Dice, Balloon Pop and most other DiceCity Originals, so one rotation covers them together. Plinko keeps a pair of its own.

What settings can you change?

  • Mines. From 1 to 24, set before each round.
  • Manual or Auto. Play tile by tile, or let Auto play the tiles you pick on the board every round.
  • Number of bets. How many rounds Auto plays; 0 keeps going until you stop.
  • On win and On loss. Reset the bet, or increase it by a percentage.
  • Stop on profit and Stop on loss. Auto stops when your net result reaches either.
  • Pick random tile. Turns a random hidden tile for you.
  • Sound and Fairness. The speaker button and the key button for seeds and Verify.
  • Page controls. Favourites (S), Live stats, Theatre mode (T) on wider screens and Full screen (F).

Tips for playing responsibly

  • Decide before each round when you will cash out, and stick to it. The decision is harder in the moment.
  • Set a session budget first. The budget calculator on DiceCity's responsible gambling page is a quick way to do it.
  • A high mine count looks exciting, but with 10 mines the first tile alone fails 40% of the time.
  • In Auto, add a Stop on loss.
  • Increasing your stake after a lost round does not make the next board safer.
  • Check Live stats now and then, and take a break if you feel the urge to win something back.
