What is Flip at DiceCity?

Flip is a coin-calling game from the DiceCity Originals. You bet, then call heads or tails before every flip. Each right call nearly doubles your multiplier. A wrong call ends the round and the stake is lost. You can cash out after any right call, and a run of twenty right calls in a row cashes out for you.

The coin is exactly even: heads and tails each have a 50% chance on every flip, whatever came before. So the only real decision in Flip is when to stop. One right call pays just under 2×. Stay in, and the multiplier keeps doubling, but so does the chance of losing everything you have built up.

DiceCity is invite only and for adults 18 and over. Use the invite link a citizen sent you, or sign in, to play on this page.

How do you play Flip?

  1. Enter your stake in Bet amount. The smallest bet is worth $0.10.
  2. Press Bet, or press Space, to start a round.
  3. Call the first flip: Heads, Tails or Random call. On a keyboard, H or the left arrow calls heads and T or the right arrow calls tails.
  4. A right call raises the multiplier. The panel shows what cashing out now would pay.
  5. Call again, or press Cashout (or Space) to take your stake times the current multiplier.
  6. A wrong call ends the round. Twenty right calls cash out automatically.

What are the odds and payouts?

After k right calls the multiplier is 0.99 × 2 to the power k, trimmed by one part in ten million and rounded down.

Right callsPaysChance of getting there
11.9799×50%
23.9599×25%
37.9199×12.5%
531.6799×3.125%
101,013.7598×about 0.098%
201,038,090.1361×1 in 1,048,576

Each step halves your chance and almost doubles the multiplier, which is why every point you can cash out at returns just under 99% over time. The missing 1% is the house edge. It is a long-run average, so a few rounds can land a long way from it in either direction.

Any single bet pays at most $10,000. In real-money play a note under the bet field shows the multiplier at which wins stop for your stake, which arrives well before the twentieth call on most stakes.

Is Flip fair?

Yes. All twenty coins of a round are flipped the moment you bet, using DiceCity's provably fair seeds, and stay hidden until you call them:

  • Server seed hash. You see the SHA-256 hash of a secret server seed before betting, which fixes every coin of the round.
  • Your client seed. Your own input. Change it to any text up to 64 characters between rounds.
  • The nonce. Your bet's number on the seed pair, starting at 0.
  • How the coins land. HMAC-SHA256 of the server seed with your client seed and nonce gives twenty numbers. A number in the lower half is heads; the upper half is tails.
  • Checking after you rotate. Rotate your seed pair to reveal the old server seed and start a new pair at nonce 0. Rotation waits until your round is over. Check the revealed seed against its hash, then see every coin of a round in the Verify tab.

Because the coins are set before you call, your call cannot change how a coin lands; it only decides whether you guessed it.

Flip uses the same seed pair as Rock Paper Scissors, HiLo and most other DiceCity Originals, so one rotation covers them together. Plinko keeps a pair of its own.

What settings can you change?

  • Your call. Heads, Tails or Random call, by button or keyboard.
  • Manual or Auto. Call by hand, or let Auto call a fixed number of flips and cash out each round.
  • Flips per bet. In Auto, how many right calls to go for before cashing out.
  • Auto call. Heads, tails or random for every flip in Auto.
  • Number of bets, On win and On loss. How many rounds Auto plays, and whether the bet resets or rises by a percentage.
  • Stop on profit and Stop on loss. Auto stops at either result.
  • Sound and Fairness. The speaker button, and the key button for seeds and Verify.
  • Page controls. Favourites (S), Live stats, Theatre mode (T) on wider screens and Full screen (F).

Tips for playing responsibly

  • Choose how many calls you will go for before the round starts.
  • Set your budget first. DiceCity's responsible gambling page has a budget calculator.
  • Heads after five tails is still exactly 50%. Past flips tell you nothing.
  • In Auto, add a Stop on loss to the number of flips.
  • Raising your stake after a wrong call does not change the next coin.
  • Watch Live stats, and stop when it stops being fun.
