What is Alley Run at DiceCity?

Alley Run is a dice-and-board game from the DiceCity Originals. Your token sits on the start of a loop of 12 tiles. Each turn you roll two dice and move that many tiles round the loop. Some tiles are hazards: land on one and the round ends with the stake lost. Every other tile changes your multiplier, and you can cash out after any roll.

What makes Alley Run different is that every tile shows, before you roll, what landing there would make your multiplier. Good tiles push it up; low tiles pay under 1× and pull it down a little. The difficulty decides how many hazards are on the board, from one on Easy to five on Master, and busier boards pay more for the safe tiles in between.

DiceCity is invite only and for adults 18 and over. Open the invite link a citizen sent you, or sign in, to play on this page.

How do you play Alley Run?

  1. Choose a Difficulty: Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert or Master.
  2. Enter your stake in Bet amount. The smallest bet is worth $0.10.
  3. Press Bet, or press Space. All the dice for the round are fixed at that moment.
  4. Press Roll, or Space. Your token moves the total of the two dice round the loop.
  5. Read the tiles ahead to see what each landing would do, then roll again or press Cashout.
  6. Land on a hazard and the round ends. The 10th roll cashes out for you, and so does any roll that takes you to 1,000,000×.

What are the odds and payouts?

From the start tile, the first roll looks like this:

DifficultyHazard tilesFirst roll lands on a hazardBest first roll pays
Easy13 in 36 (8.33%)2.23×
Medium26 in 36 (16.67%)2.74×
Hard39 in 36 (25%)3.55×
Expert412 in 36 (33.33%)4.55×
Master516 in 36 (44.44%)6.11×

Two dice make 36 equally likely pairs, and totals near 7 are the most common, so which tiles are hazards matters as much as how many there are. Each landing multiplies your win by 36 times that tile's weight divided by the total weight you could reach from where you stand. That makes every single roll exactly fair before the house edge, and every way of playing returns just under 99% over time.

On the harder boards, a run of low tiles can shrink the multiplier below your stake, even to nothing. Cashing out early is not always a win.

Any single bet pays at most $10,000. In real-money play a note under the bet field shows the multiplier at which wins stop for your stake.

Is Alley Run fair?

Yes. Every die of the round is set from DiceCity's provably fair seeds before your first roll:

  • Server seed hash. Before you bet, the game shows the SHA-256 hash of a secret server seed. The seed, and so all 20 dice, are fixed from then on.
  • Your client seed. Your own input. Change it to any text up to 64 characters between rounds.
  • The nonce. Your bet's number on the seed pair, starting at 0.
  • How the dice are made. HMAC-SHA256 of the server seed with your client seed and nonce gives 20 numbers, two per roll, each scaled to a die from 1 to 6.
  • Checking after you rotate. Rotate the seed pair to reveal the old server seed and start a new pair at nonce 0. Rotation waits until your round is over. Hash the revealed seed, compare it with the hash you saw, and recheck every roll in the Verify tab.

Alley Run uses the same seed pair as Dice, Mines and most other DiceCity Originals, so one rotation covers them together. Plinko keeps a pair of its own.

What settings can you change?

  • Difficulty. Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert or Master.
  • Manual or Auto. Roll by hand, or let Auto roll a set number of times and cash out each round.
  • Rolls per bet. In Auto, how many rolls to take before cashing out.
  • Number of bets. How many rounds Auto plays; 0 keeps going until you stop.
  • On win and On loss. Reset the bet, or raise it by a percentage.
  • Stop on profit and Stop on loss. Auto stops at either result.
  • Sound and Fairness. The speaker button, and the key button for seeds and Verify.
  • Page controls. Favourites (S), Live stats, Theatre mode (T) on wider screens and Full screen (F).

Tips for playing responsibly

  • Read the tiles before each roll. They show exactly what you stand to gain or lose.
  • Set a budget for the session. DiceCity's responsible gambling page has a budget calculator.
  • On Master, almost half of first rolls end the round.
  • In Auto, add a Stop on loss as well as the number of rolls.
  • Raising your stake after a bad landing does not change the next roll.
  • Use Live stats to keep track, and take breaks when you need them.
