What is Cases at DiceCity?
Cases is a case-opening game from the DiceCity Originals. You choose a case by its risk, bet and open it. A reel spins past the prizes inside and stops on the one you win. Each prize is a multiplier of your stake.
The risk level decides what is inside. An Easy case always pays something, though often less than your stake. The harder cases hold more empty tickets and much bigger prizes at the top, which makes them swingier: most openings pay nothing, and a few pay a great deal. The list under the reel shows every prize in the case you picked, with its chance, so you always know what you are opening.
DiceCity is invite only and for adults 18 and over. Open the invite link a citizen sent you, or sign in, to play on this page.
How do you play Cases?
- Choose a Risk: Easy, Medium, Hard or Expert.
- Check the prizes in this case, listed under the reel with their chances.
- Enter your stake in Bet amount. The smallest bet is worth $0.10, and ½ and 2× halve or double it.
- Press Bet, or press Space. The case opens and the reel spins.
- The reel stops on your prize.
- You are paid your stake times that prize's multiplier. An empty ticket pays nothing.
What are the odds and payouts?
Each case holds 100,000 tickets, shared out among its prizes by weight:
| Risk | Prizes (×) | Empty tickets | Top prize chance | Pays more than the stake |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, 1.5, 2, 5, 20 | none | 1 in 1,000 | 45% |
| Medium | 0.3, 1.2, 2, 4, 10, 50, 200 | 24.25% | 3 in 10,000 | 45.75% |
| Hard | 0.5, 2, 5, 15, 100, 1,000 | 66.35% | 1 in 25,000 | 18.65% |
| Expert | 2, 10, 50, 250, 1,000, 5,000 | 82.23% | 1 in 100,000 | 17.77% |
Look at the last column. Even on Easy, where every case pays, more than half of openings pay back less than you staked.
For every case, the prizes multiplied by their chances add up to exactly 0.99 of the stake, and the draw over every possible ticket trims a sliver more, so every risk returns 98.99% over time, a house edge of just over 1%. That is an average over a very large number of cases, not a forecast for your next few.
Any single bet pays at most $10,000. In real-money play a Max bet note under the bet field shows the limit for the case you picked.
Is Cases fair?
Yes. Every case is opened with DiceCity's provably fair seeds:
- Server seed hash. The game shows the SHA-256 hash of a secret server seed before you bet, fixing that seed in advance.
- Your client seed. Your own input. Change it to any text up to 64 characters.
- The nonce. The opening's number on your seed pair, from 0 upwards.
- How the prize is picked. HMAC-SHA256 of the server seed with your client seed and nonce gives one number, scaled to a ticket from 0 to 99,999. The tickets are laid out prize by prize, lowest first, and your ticket falls into one of them.
- Checking after you rotate. Rotate the seed pair to reveal the old server seed and start a new pair at nonce 0. Hash the seed, compare it with the hash you saw, then select it under Previous seeds and recheck any case in the Verify tab.
Cases uses the same seed pair as Darts, Wheel and most other DiceCity Originals, so one rotation covers them together. Plinko keeps a pair of its own.
What settings can you change?
- Risk. Easy, Medium, Hard or Expert.
- Bet amount. With ½ and 2×.
- Manual or Auto. Open one case per press, or a series.
- Number of bets. How many cases Auto opens; 0 keeps going until you stop.
- On win and On loss. Reset the bet, or raise it by a percentage.
- Stop on profit and Stop on loss. Auto stops at either result.
- Sound and Fairness. The speaker button, and the key button for seeds and Verify.
- Page controls. Favourites (S), Live stats, Theatre mode (T) on wider screens and Full screen (F).
Tips for playing responsibly
- Set a budget before you open the first case. DiceCity's responsible gambling page has a budget calculator.
- On Hard and Expert, long runs of empty cases are normal. Plan for them.
- Watch the result against your stake, not against zero: a 0.8× prize on Easy is still a loss.
- If you use Auto, set Stop on loss as well as the number of cases.
- Raising the bet after an empty case does not bring the top prize closer.
- Check Live stats from time to time, and take breaks.
