What is Video Poker at DiceCity?
Video Poker at DiceCity is Jacks or Better, the classic single-hand game, played as one of the DiceCity Originals. You bet and five cards are dealt face up. You choose which cards to keep, then draw once: every card you did not hold is replaced from the same deck. Your final five-card hand is paid from the pay table.
This is the one game in the Originals where your decisions change the return. The cards are fair either way, but holding the right cards matters. The best hold on every hand gives the game's full return, and any other choice gives less. The lowest paying hand is a pair of Jacks or better, which gives the game its name.
DiceCity is invite only and for adults 18 and over. Open the invite link a citizen sent you, or sign in, to play on this page.
How do you play Video Poker?
- Enter your stake in Bet amount. The smallest bet is worth $0.10, and ½ and 2× halve or double it.
- Press Deal, or press Space. Five cards are dealt face up.
- Tap the cards you want to keep, or press keys 1 to 5. Held cards are marked.
- Press Draw, or Space again. Every card you did not hold is replaced.
- Your final hand is paid from the table at the top of the game.
- No winning hand means the stake is lost. Deal again when you are ready.
What are the odds and payouts?
Pays are per unit staked:
| Hand | Pays |
|---|---|
| Royal Flush | 800× |
| Straight Flush | 60× |
| Four of a Kind | 22× |
| Full House | 9× |
| Flush | 6× |
| Straight | 4× |
| Three of a Kind | 3× |
| Two Pair | 2× |
| Jacks or Better | 1× |
A-2-3-4-5 counts as a straight, but straights do not wrap around the Ace, so Q-K-A-2-3 is not one. A pair of Jacks or better returns your stake; a lower pair pays nothing.
With the best hold on every hand, worked out over all 2,598,960 possible deals, the game returns 98.94% over time. Any other way of playing returns less. With best play a royal flush comes along about once every 40,000 hands. These figures are averages over a very long run, not what a session will deliver.
Any single bet pays at most $10,000. In real-money play a Max bet note under the bet field shows the limit the cap sets.
Is Video Poker fair?
Yes. All the cards a hand can use are fixed by DiceCity's provably fair seeds before you see the deal:
- Server seed hash. You are shown the SHA-256 hash of a secret server seed before betting. From then on the seed, and the cards, are locked.
- Your client seed. Your own input to the shuffle. Change it to any text up to 64 characters between hands.
- The nonce. The hand's number on your seed pair, counting up from 0.
- How the cards are drawn. HMAC-SHA256 of the server seed with your client seed and nonce gives ten numbers. They draw ten different cards from one 52-card deck: the first five are the deal, and the next five replace your discards from left to right. The replacements stay hidden until you draw.
- Checking after you rotate. Rotating the seed pair reveals the old server seed and starts a new pair at nonce 0. Check the revealed seed against its hash, then replay any hand, deal and draw, in the Verify tab.
Video Poker uses the same seed pair as Baccarat, HiLo and most other DiceCity Originals, so one rotation covers them together. Plinko keeps a pair of its own.
What settings can you change?

Video Poker is played hand by hand. It has no auto bet.
Tips for playing responsibly
- Set your budget before the first deal. DiceCity's responsible gambling page has a budget calculator.
- Careful holds protect the game's return, but no hold makes a win certain. The pay table is always on screen if you want to think a hand through.
- A royal flush is rare even with perfect play, so do not plan a session around one.
- Take your time over each hold. There is no clock.
- Raising the stake after a losing hand does not improve the next deal.
- Check Live stats and stop when it stops being enjoyable.
